Using the compilation of lessons learnt and materials from previous LIFE projects including LIFE 07/NAT/E/000732 INDEMARES and LIFE 02 NAT/E/8610 Conservation of Cetaceans and Sea Turtles in Murcia and Andalusia, as well as state of the art technological measures of management and related initiatives dealing with the development of sectorial guidelines, codes of conduct, risk mitigation measures, etc. (FAO, IMO, CMS – ACCOBAMS, UNEP MAP) a series of documents will be produced in different formats. These materials will be distributed and put online coinciding with the workshops of Action E13.

These materials should provide a robust foundation for the development of national and regional site management plans and species conservation plan. The materials will address the interactions of cetaceans and sea turtles with activities of the sectors of maritime transport, energy, fisheries, tourism and defence, and include one brochure and one poster for each of these sectors.

GUIDELINE DOCUMENTS: These will consist of a technical document (approximately 50 pages) that will include the following information:

• Introduction to the species (ecology, population(s) in Maltese waters, conservation status, vulnerabilities,..)

• Introduction to conservation frameworks and more specifically the Habitat Directive

• Global objectives of conservation

• Attributes of the species – threats for these attributes

• Specific conservation objectives

• Existing regulations and management measures

• Future requirements

• What can I do?

200 copies will be produced.

WEBSITE: The website will include links to the main sites of interest where legislation, guidelines and codes of conduct can be found. Downloadable PDF files of the brochures and posters as well as a section of technical reports and publications of interest will also be available. The site itself will be very simple with the minimum text necessary to complement illustrations images and graphics that should illustrate the key information in a simple way.

BROCHURE: For each sector a 6 page brochure (A4) will give basic general information on the interactions of the species, at key sites in Europe and key sites in the region, together with an introduction on its ecology, the potential threats and possible prevention / mitigation measures that can be adopted. These 5 brochures will fit into 1 folder with general information on NATURA 2000 and the MIGRATE project. 250 copies of each will be produced.

POSTER: One general information poster and 5 sectorial posters will be produced with the key elements addressed in the website and the brochures. 250 copies of each will be produced.
