The data referred to in Actions A1 will be transformed in to GIS layers which will be superimposed to create a map providing an indication as to where the likely hotspots for further consideration could be. The first draft map, created using the data already available (Action A1) will be updated regularly as more data is fed into the project as a result of the boat-based observations and surveys.
Since the entire survey area includes over 1million Ha, this action will help to guide action A3 to the areas/zones more likely to be of importance for Tursiops truncatus and Caretta caretta, ensuring that energy is not unnecessarily expended on areas which are not likely to yield results. Since the project is time-barred, and the surveys will be taking place over a period of two years, it is important that this desk study be carried out to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of Action A3.
